The exhibition 'Forms and Symbols' a search for visual identity in Nigerian Modernist Art is now showing on the first floor of the museum's building.
An exploration of memory and migration. Showing from 29th October 2022 - 31st May 2023
Female artists continue being underrepresented in the Nigerian Art scene, despite their continuous and valuable contributions to its growth and development. In collaboration with Curator Olufisayo Bakare, the YSMA attempts to address this disproportion through 'The Invincible Hands' Art Exhibition, giving credence to the individuality, voices, and creativity of women artists.
Using examples of works in clay, wood, metal, fibre, beads and re-purposed objects, the exhibition shows how Nigerian artists have explored different materials available within their environment, mirroring the various social conditions and civilizations at that time.
