The Yemisi Shyllon Museum of Art, Pan-Atlantic University, is proud to announce a photography competition designed to inspire creativity, artistic expression, and a deeper engagement with the visual arts. This competition is open to all Pan-Atlantic University students and aligns with YSMA’s mission of enriching both the university community and society at large.
Purpose and Objectives
This competition seeks to:
- Promote Artistic Expression: Provide a platform for students to creatively express themselves through photography.
- Encourage Engagement with the Arts: Foster an appreciation of visual arts within the Pan-Atlantic University community.
- Develop Student Talent: Enhance photography skills among students.
- Build Community: Strengthen connections among students through shared artistic projects.
- Inspire Observation and Reflection: Encourage a culture of mindful observation among youth.
Competition Theme: "The Perspective of the Pan-Atlantic University"
The competition is a unique opportunity for students to capture the university's spirit and beauty. The theme encourages students to explore the campus grounds and capture a location, view, or detail that resonates with them through their lens.
You can capture a shot that embodies the beauty, spirit, and vibrancy of the University from the stunning architecture to the serene landscapes and unique spaces, the energy of student life with each picture telling its own story.
Guidelines for Participation
- Participants: All students enrolled in Pan-Atlantic University.
- Audience: The wider PAU community, including students, faculty, staff, and external visitors.
- Location: All photographs must be taken on the Pan-Atlantic University premises.
Prizes
The competition will recognize excellence in four main categories:
- Winner: ₦100,000, YSMA Merchandise, Certificate
- First Runner-Up: ₦80,000, YSMA Merchandise, Certificate
- Second Runner-Up: ₦60,000, YSMA Merchandise, Certificate
- People’s Choice: ₦20,000, YSMA Merchandise, Certificate
Additionally, consolation prizes include YSMA merchandise. All shortlisted works will be highlighted on YSMA’s website, newsletter, and social media, and exhibited in the Museum’s gallery for a period of time.
Submission Requirements
- Google Form Submission: Complete the form with a valid student ID, contact information, high-resolution photograph(s), and a brief description (up to 100 words) for each photograph.
- File Format and Size: Images must be in JPEG (.jpg) or PNG (.png) format, maximum size of 10 MB, and a resolution of at least 300 dpi.
- Entry Limit: Maximum of 2 submissions per participant. If both photographs share the same concept, they will be considered as one entry.
- Naming Format: NAME-TITLE-SERIAL NUMBER (e.g., FAVOUR JOHN -BEYOND THE SKY-1) and if submitting two entries (FAVOUR JOHN- BELOVED THE SKY-1, FAVOUR JOHN BELOVED -2)
- Consent: Participants must obtain consent from any person(s) featured in the photographs.
Selection Process
- Submissions will be evaluated by a panel of judges, who will shortlist the top 20 entries.
- The shortlisted works will be uploaded to YSMA’s Instagram page, where YSMA's online followers can vote for the “People’s Choice” award.
- The YSMA team will notify participants of their shortlisted status and request raw files for printing and display.
Judging Criteria
All entries will be judged on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest. Criteria include:
- Adherence to Theme: Alignment with the competition’s theme.
- Creativity and Originality: Uniqueness and imagination.
- Technical Quality: Focus, exposure, and composition.
- Emotional Impact: Ability to evoke a strong response.
- Artistic Expression: Level of artistic skill and expression.
Eligibility: Open to all PAU students, regardless of your field of study
