Week One Highlights

Patterns in Art – Drawing, sketching, coloring, and photography introduced participants to the beauty of patterns.Precolonial Igbo Society – A gallery walk and book reading (Things Fall Apart) explored Igbo cosmology and art forms.Pottery – A lecture and gallery exploration connected traditional pottery techniques to contemporary creativity.The Art of Photography – An interactive session on lighting, reflection, and shadows helped campers view the world differently.Precolonial Yoruba Society – A documentary on egungun masquerades and discussions on Yoruba heritage deepened cultural awareness

Week Two Highlights

Art & Environment – Critical discussions on sustainability through artworks addressing environmental challenges.Weaving – Documentary screenings and gallery exploration showcased Africa’s weaving traditions.Precolonial Benin Society – A documentary on the Benin Bronzes and hands-on art activities immersed participants in Benin’s rich artistic legacy.Artistic Jewellery – A look into jewellery-making traditions, highlighting the significance of manillas in West African trade.Silhouette: Shadow Drawing Masterclass – The camp finale focused on sketching and the expressive power of silhouettes.


The Open Camp was more than just an art program, it was a journey into heritage, self-expression, and critical reflection. From exploring precolonial societies to engaging with environmental themes, participants left with a appreciation for the power of art to tell stories and preserve culture.
